1980’s The Foyer Club Sports et Loisirs, Grenoble, France – French Challenge: Article 2
[Approx, date 1980s] In our last issue M. Chabut described the origins of The Foyer Club Sports et Loisirs at Grenoble in France, of which he is a Director, and in particular its section for teaching boxing and wrestling to young girls aged between 10 and 16. In a recent letter he has sent us more information about two of the Club’s more active participants.
Editor.
One of the youngsters is particularly well fitted for boxing. FLORENCE, aged 13, weighing 41 kg. Recently she boxed a boy in a really memorable match. For the first two rounds the bout was very even. The two adversaries took the advantage turn and turn about. Florence was sent to the canvas from a right during thefirst round. However, she was quite able to carry on.
In the second round, in his turn, she put the boy on the ground from an uppercut to the jaw.
At last, in the third round, Florence really unleashed herself. She again sent her opponent to the canvas. Immediately he was on his feet, she was on to him again with a two-f isted battery to the face. He was groggy on the ropes, and we had to stop the bout. Florence was proclaimed the well deserved winner.
Now Florence throws down a challenge to any girl of her age (13) and weight (41 kg.). In this she is joined by another promising boxer from theFoyer Club Sports et Loisirs, ISABELLE, who is 14 years old and weighs 42 kg. (equivalent weight, approx 6 -7 stone). These two are shortly to fight each other, and we hope to report on their match in a forthcoming issue. Meanwhie, they issue their challenge to any girls of their age and weights.
Editor’s comment.
Readers are reminded that M. Chabut does not speak English, so letters requiring translation should be sent to the Editor, AGGRESSIVE WOMEN, who will forward them suitably translated. Moreover, if any reader is able to provide opponents for Florence and Isabelle, the Editor will do his best to arrange free transport to and from Grenoble for the girl(s) and an adult companion,. and doubtless M. Chabut will be able to offer free accommodation in Grenoble.
