Jack Pokress: A past Award-Winning photographer who covered women’s boxing
The course of women in boxing has drawn diverse persons to the sport. Jackson “Jack” Pokress is one of those people. Pokress possessa a many faceted personality and has had a varied career. He has been on the Fire Department for 24 years, with the past 10 of which he has served as Commissioner in North Massopequa, New York.
Recently, being elected to his third term as First Vice-President of the Association of Fire Districtrs at Nassau Couty places him inj the second highest elected office in his area. In the world of women’s boxing, he photographed throughout the years, fighters as far back as Barbara Buttrick, Joann Hagen, to in the 70’s and 80’s where he photographed pro boxers as Paula Trichel, Shirley Tucker, Lavonne Ludian, Cat Davis and more.
At this date, he was on the “Women’s Boxing Board” WBB, where they developed ratings for the professional women boxers in the sport.
