All Women’s Card in Japan Makes History First
(MAY 10) Last night in front of a sold out crowd at the at the Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo, Japan, in what has been considered the first time the Japan Boxing Commission recognized women’s boxing this year, there was 10 women’s bouts on this card. In a six-rounder, Japan’s junior welterweight Emiko Raika, 136, 18-3-1 (6KO), won a six-round majority decision over previously undefeated Natalie Brown, 136¼, 5-1-0, of Canada. Judges scores were 58-57, 58-56, and 58-58.
In other bouts on the undercard, flyweight Rie Fujimoto, 112, 6-2-2 (2KO, won a six-round majority decision over Mami [Asami] Shikasho, 110¾. Final judges scores were 58-57, 58-57, and 57-57; Naomi Tagashi, 104 ¾, retired her opponent, Anri Nakagawa, 104, in the second round of a six round bout; Super Flyweight Mutsumi Maeda [Tsubasa], 117 ¼, TKO’d Miki Kikukawa, 117, at [0:46] of the fifth round of a scheduled six round bout; Japan’s strawweight Etsuko Tada, 105, won a six-round unanimous decision over Lilli Rachaprachagym, 103 ¾ , of Thailand. Final judges scores were 59-55, 59-55, and 60-55; Japan’s junior flyweight Tomoko Ito, 104 ¾, won a fourth round technical decision over Mami Ito, 103 ¾. According to news sources, Mami sustained a large swelling on her forehead, and the JPC doctor advised the referee to stop the match at [24 seconds] of the fourth round; .Japan’s strawweight Momo Koseki, 104, won a four-round unanimous decision over Mayumi Kubo, 104 ¼. Final judges scores, 40-37, 40-37, and 40-36; Junior Featherweight Natsuki Noguchi, 122 ¼, won a four-round majority decision over Kiyoka Miyoshi, 122 ¼; Strawweight Tomoyo Noguchi, 101, won a four-round unanimous decision over Yu Koshiishi, 100 ¼; and lastly Sakura Ouchi, 101 ¼, won a four-round unanimous decision over Yuka Kobayashi, 93 ¼. Final judges scores were 38-37, 38-37, and 39-37.
