Blast From the Past: Laoma Byrd ran the Boxing Training Camp in the 1950’s

But times have changed and so has the “fairer sex.” At least so it seems in the case of brown-eyed, silver-haired Laoma Byrd of Pleasantville, New Jersey, who, when most women were thinking It USED to be women were thought of as being best suited for just one thing—rearing a family of husbands and households, turned her fancy to boxing.

For the past 21 years, Miss Byrd has owned and operated a training camp for prize fighters, combining her knack of sports with a feminine ability to understand and work with some of the world’s greatest practitioners of the sport.
