In 1912, there was an extensive story on a fight that took place between two females: Myrtle Havers, 19 years old, and Mable Williams, 22 years old. The story was published in the New York World, in April of 1912.
The bout was described as follows: The two women fought with eight-ounce gloves. The bout took place in a private gym. Location: Flint, Michigan. Havers was reported to have knocked out Williams in the seventh round of a scheduled 10 round bout. The title was called: “Girls Championship of Michigan.”
The fight ended when Williams who was known for being the best female boxer in Michigan with a stiff uppercut, and “Knocked into Dreamland!”
