Chatterbox: News Segment by the Late Johnny Dubliss – Oct. 1980
In memory of Boxing promoter/writer Johnny Dubliss, WBAN posted a story he published in the WBB Glove magazine (now defuncted), October 1980 issue. Dubliss strongly supported female boxing and promoted cards featuring women. In the Chatter Box News in this issues he reported about guidelines that the California State Athletic Commission had made in regards to female boxers. In the commission’s July 3, 1980 meeting, Amy Levitt (past boxer and actress), Lady Tyger Trimiar (pro boxer at the time), and the very famous promoter Aileen Eaton (now deceased), suggested that 10 ounce gloves were too big for the flyweights and other lighter weight classes. So it was determined that boxers not over the weight of 147 would wear 8 oz of gloves. There is also more tidbits of news on this page…
