Doping: Finland Bans Kupihea due to testing Positive

(FEB 24) WBAN has learned earlier  today that it has been reported that Finland has banned female
boxer Kuulei Kupihea, 29 years old, 7-2-0 (2KO), for testing positive for doping, after she fought Norway’s Cecelia Braekhus on December 3, 2011 in Helsinki, Finland. The two were fighting for three welterweight [WBC, WBA, and WBO] world title belts.

Kupihea, a truck driver by day, and boxer by night, was stopped 57 seconds in the tenth round by Braekhus. The WBC reported the following:

“Finland bans Kupihea due to positive doping, The Professional Boxing Federation from Finland, through his general secretary Pertti Augustin, announced that the female fighter from Hawaii Kuulei Kupihea has been banned for two years.”

Augustin said that she would be banned as of December 3, 2011, for testing positive in the anti-doping test that was given right after the fight when she faced Braekhus for the WBC title.
