Italy Requires Headgear for Pro Boxers! – 2003

(MAY 13)  Presently in Italy, it is a requirement for women boxers to fight IN HEADGEAR and 10 Oz. Gloves.  Due to this law,  Italian boxers are not allowed to fight without protections, even when they want to fight OUTSIDE of Italy!

Sonia Grande, WBAN’s Italy’s correspondent said, “Due to this law,  Italian fighters are not allowed to fight without protections and that means that if they want to fight outside  of Italy they have to use headgear and big gloves—-but in other countries there are different rules that do not accept headgear for professionals.”

Grande gave a comparison by saying, “Could you imagine Regina Halmich fighting Stefania Bianchini in Germany with Bianchini using different protections?”   Grande added, “Also… all foreign fighters that come here to fight are subjected to these rules!”  Grande sent in some RARE photos of the Cathy Brown vs. Stefania Bianchini of Italy that took place in December of 2003,  where they were fighting a ten round European title fight WITH headgear!
