Leatitia Robinson: Open Letter Response to Laila Ali -2004
By Leatitia Robinson – May 11, 2004
(MAY 11) WBAN has received a response to Laila Ali, from “Baby Girl” Leatitia Robinson, after she read Laila Ali’s open letter to her on WBAN! Robinson’s response:
Come on Laila, let’s get real about this. If you are going to start talking you might want to first get your facts straight. The $10,000 offer was a second offer, your matchmaker originally offered $5,000 in January 2003 after I knocked out Dakota Stone. Naturally, my people said, “Are you crazy?” Then I was offered the $10,000. Are you serious? Do you expect me to believe that you are taking the fight at anywhere around $10,000? I am a world champion, you are a world champion and compensation should be comparable. That $500,000 comment you made, is fiction, pure fiction, but go ahead and keep on talking.
Now then, I don’t need to respond to your assessment of my boxing skills. I don’t place value in the opinion of a “fighter” who has a whole five years of fighting experience. I can think of about 14 obvious reasons you wouldn’t want to fight me, by the way, 14 is the number of years I have been fighting and winning. As for me being inconsistent, no, I don’t think so. Of course, I’ll need to fight people you’ve already fought. That’s the only way to get the belts.
Sure you are fighting my leftovers. After beating Nikki Eplion at 160 in February then she is surprisingly ranked number two a month later at 168. The press release follows stating that you are going to fight her. It sounds a little bit different than me wanting to fight Shirvelle for a belt at 160.
It is easy enough to put your response on the internet. Your people have my number but I’m still waiting on that phone call. In fact, there hasn’t been a phone call since January 2003. Yep. That might be why I don’t think you are serious. If you are really serious, make it happen.
