Pat Orr photographer that began in the early 1980’s
Pat Orr began her photography journey in the early 80’s. She began shooting weddings and portraits first in the beginning of her career. Then her sports photography came alive when her friend Cindi Wetmore started coaching field hockey and girls lacrosse at CNS high school.
Orr said, “I got the contract to shoot all of their team and individual pictures from modified to varsity. Then I added a couple of more schools under contract and that built a nice business!”
“In 1990 I visited The International Boxing Hall of Fame with my mother on Mother’s Day. As I was talking with the director, Ed Brophy he asked me what I did for a living and when I told him I was a photographer he asked if I was interested in shooting their first induction in June. It didn’t take long for me to respond to him, absolutely, yes! And that was the start of me being the International Boxing Hall of Fame photographer,”added Orr.
“The four-day event was very taxing, but the most fun ever! Meeting fighters that I watched on Wide World of Sports, Tuesday Night Fights and Friday Night fights from the 60’s up to the Present has been the best part of my photography career. Traveling all over the United States shooting these great fighters Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Vinny Paz, Larry Holmes, Big George Forman, Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward, Oscar DeLahoya, Floyd Mayweather, Christy Martin and Mike Tyson.”
Orr said, “You get the point, I was living the dream!”
Orr went on to say, “Sitting and listening to the Champs – Talk and tell stories after hours at Grazianos and the Days Inn was unbelievable. To earn the trust and respect of these great champions was an honor and I will always be grateful. Find something you love to do and make it your job and you will never work a day in your life!”
