(MAY 23, 2025) WBAN was notified yesterday, Durham’s Professional female boxer passed away yesterday at the age of 25 after a short battle with Cancer. She had been diagnosed with cancer in January of 2025, and it was reported that the cancer was a rare incurable and aggressive form of the disease.
Georgia’s passed away, the same month that she got married to Adriano Cardinali, that took place on May 9, 2025. Georgia had posted the news of her wedding on Instagram stating that she had married the love of her life.
O’Connor truly was a rising star in the sport. She had a stellar amateur career where she won gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017; she won a silver medal at the 2017 Youth Championships, and a bronze in 2018 at the same tournament, in addition to many other accolades to her amateur career.
She then turned pro debut on October 16, 2021, where she fought a six rounder against Ester Konecna, winning that fight by points.
The following year on April 2, 2022, she fought another six-round bout against Erica Juana Gabriela Alvarez winning that bout by points.
In her third and final professional bout on October 15, 2022, she fought Joyce Van Ee, on a Salitas Promotional card in a scheduled four-round bout, winning that fight by points.
Wiki wrote the following: “O’Connor was of Irish descent. She lived in France for a brief period as a child and was a fluent French speaker. She was a black belt and three-time national champion in Taekwondo as well as being undefeated in kickboxing. She studied for a degree in civil engineering and played the guitar and sang in her spare time.”
John O’Connor, Georgia’s father, started her boxing, when he sparred with her on pads in the garage of their home, at the ripe ole’ age of five.
Even at a very young age of 12, Georgia said to one interviewer that she had a dream to one day, fight at the Olympics for Great Britain.
WBAN would like to give our sincere condolences to her family, and friends. Definitely a very sad day in women’s boxing to learn of her Georgia’s passing. Rest in peace….
