Top Ranked Women to Box in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (March 12) – Four women’s bouts have been firmed up by the matchmaker for the March 22 amateur boxing show to be held here at the Rave, 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., by the Duke Roufus Gym. A fifth woman awaits a matchup which Roufus says he is sure will be made and he expects more women’s matches to be made as the date for the event nears.
Certain to be an exciting contest is a match pitting Naquana Smalls, Peshtigo Boxing Club, top ranked USA Boxing lightweight the country and WBAN’s Fighter of the Month for March, against Nasheba Thomas, Titan Boxing Academy, Toledo, who is USA Boxing’s Number 5 ranked welterweight. The two ranked boxers will compete in the 138-pound class and is billed as one of the main events of the card.
Another women’s bout sure to be a high level matchup, will see the 2003 Wisconsin and Division 6 regional champion, Krista Savage, Chippewa Falls Boxing Club, meet Amber Gideon, Windy City Boxing Club in Chicago, at 138 pounds. Gideon is ranked by USA Boxing Number 2 ranked featherweight in the country.
In addition, another top ranked woman will face a Denver woman in a 112-pound bout. Rosa Rubio, Windy City, ranked Number 5 U.S. flyweight, will box Natalie Gray of T’s KO Gym in Denver.
Also, two Roufus gym products will be making their amateur boxing debuts as Erin Riley will take on Amanda Kaiser who boxes out of Gust’s Gym in Marshfield. Riley and Kaiser will box at 138 pounds. Rebecca Mahin, also of the Roufus gym, is waiting for a 132-pound matchup for her first outing as an amateur boxer.
