This is what was said in 1979: “FEMALE BOXING is a Natural for television. Boxing has proven to be a highly-skilled, telegenic sport. Female boxing is FAST and FURIOUS. There is non-stop action. The novelty of female boxing—the quality, skill and get down rumbles that are common for female boxers—will gain and sustain a solid audience base at a low cost per thousand. One of the top cable systems in America had observers at the big July 13 (all-female boxing card) which was taped by an arch competitor, the observer reported in a memo to the company’s top sports people in New York, “Female Boxing is Non-Stop Action.” Female boxing is entertaining.”
