Who Feels More Embarrassment? Fox Sports Net or George Foreman?

Tonight, September 17, 2000, at the Cobo Arena, in Detroit,   Freeda Foreman took on her second opponent, Aicheria Bell. According to Fox Sports Net, Bell is a 0-3 fighter, losing two of her previous bouts by being stopped.  Bell is out of  Wisconsin.

Foreman’s first opponent, Laquanda Landers…you guessed it…. is out of Wisconsin—-at least both of her opponents thus far hold Federal ID cards out of Wisconsin.

I couldn’t help notice that it was the same guy working the corner of both Wisconsin opponents for Foreman’s fights.  This guy is a VERY busy man digging up fighters out of the “tomato cans” express.

Regardless of those facts, Fox Sports Net aired only the last two rounds of Foreman’s fight. I am not even going to bother to try and give a fight report on two three-minute rounds of two women flailing at each other. I couldn’t even label it a barroom brawl, because if it was, they would have both gotten beat up—-really badly…..

I did note some of the comments that Fox Sports Net commentators made, and I will spare identifying them by name as to which commentator said what.

I am sure they suffered enough having to spew such superficial comments about the fight, and not just telling it like it is——- that it was a very poor match of women’s boxing.

But some of the most entertaining comments made from “them”, were as follows……

“Well there’s a little work to be done”

(Referring to Foreman and Bell flailing at each other)

“Kind of like, wild swinging”

(Commentators trying “just a little” to describe what was really happening in the fight.

I like the “Kind of”.

“Kind of Heavy-handed, like George Foreman”

(Commentators complimenting Foreman for getting a hard punch in another “Kind of” statement)

“One of her fathers old tricks”

(Lets get in a few points with ole’ dad, he may be watching the show)

My Comments:   I “Kind of” like what one boxing fan wrote in about the fight tonight that took up air space and “could have” had fighters that did have amateur experience and have been “Kind of” waiting to have an opportunity to fight on a television sports show like Fox Sports Net…..

The Boxing Fan’s observation: “They both suck.” Rather crude, but much more accurate than  the “kind of” rubbish the commentators were making.

POST FIGHT:

My comments about the Foreman/Bell fight:

Foreman was pleased with her performance but said she still has a lot of work to do in the gym to improve. She is humble, and it is obvious  that she wants to be a good boxer and do something in the sport.  The problem is one thing. She is not ready to fight pro—she is barely ready to fight amateurs.  She needs to take about a year of training and learn some skills.   Foreman’s record is now 2-0 (1KO), and Bell’s record is 0-4.
