Flash from the Past – March 1, 1977: Lavonne Ludian vs. Sue TL Fox ends in a split draw
On March 1, 1977, at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe, in Nevada, Sue TL Fox, of Garden Grove, California, fought Lavonne Ludian, of Nevada, to a controversial “split” draw. Pre-fight article attached. After the draw, Fox was called in about February 1978, to have a rematch with Ludian. At the time Dee Knuckles called Fox by phone stating that promoter Mr. T Trunich was offering Fox $2500 to fight Ludian, and that Ludian was receiving $5,000 that would be at the Caesar’s Palace, in Las Vegas, Nevada on a card with Earnie Shavers vs. Larry Holmes main event. Fox immediately accepted the offer.
Then Fox received another call from Dee Knuckles telling Fox that Ludian didn’t accept the fight, and it was because she didn’t want to fight a “southpaw.” At the time, another promoter Bill Dickson told Fox by phone that promoter T. Trunich said that if Ludian would not take the fight with her, that she [Ludian] would not be picking her opponents—no female bout was added to that card. Fox asked Ludian about this in about 2001, and she said she did not recall that and that she would have taken a fight for that amount of money.
