On August 4, 2004, the Women Boxing Archive Network (WBAN) celebrated its sixth anniversary since launching online in 1998. WBAN originally began as a platform to document the history of women’s boxing, including my own competitive boxing career during the late 1970s. Over the past six years on the internet, we have witnessed a broad spectrum of attitudes within the community.
We have seen dedicated fighters act as true ambassadors for the sport, contrasted by individualistic boxers who view themselves as the sole driving force of the industry, operating entirely for self-interest.
WBAN firmly believes that no single athlete makes or breaks this sport. It requires a collective, unified effort from boxers, trainers, managers, matchmakers, promoters, and the broader boxing community to keep the sport growing in a positive, upward direction.
To mark our sixth year online, WBAN is dedicating this year to every female boxer who has fought to elevate the sport to its current standing.
